Let's Do Lunch!

" Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: “It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth.” Mathew 4:4 (MSG)

When someone asks, let's do lunch, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? For me, it's a hot delicious meal accompanied by a refreshing drink and a great convo. But what if we thought outside the box?

I was in Brooklyn, NY, for an RTB event. I stayed in town for the night with my family. The next day my friend said, "If we weren't fasting, we could have gone to lunch." So immediately, I thought of a restaurant we both liked and sighed.

It wasn't until I went home that I realized we could have done lunch. But when you love food like me, you will first think about what will excite your tastebuds and fill your belly. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, but because my idea was limited, so was my opportunity to connect. I should have said, " Let's still do lunch and read the Bible together; we could consume God's words."

No guilt trip here, just an observation for the foodie in me who is slowly but surely growing an appetite for spiritual food as much as my physical food. The next time someone says, let's do lunch, and I am fasting, I will say, sure, let's eat the bread of life.

Let me know what doing lunch looks like and if you would consider having a lunch date that only includes reading the Bible. Hmmmm.
